Orange Pound Cake

Fragrant, moist, and tender orange pound cake flavored with freshly squeezed orange juice and orange zest. This easy recipe is a winner!

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup fresh orange zest
  • 1/2 cup milk or half and half
  • 1 1/2 cups butter (salted or unsalted) softened
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 cups granulated sugar divided
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice divided

  • 1-2 Tbsp fresh orange zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

First, preheat oven to 325 ° F. Grease and flour a standard 10 to 15 cup casserole dish or spray with cooking spray. Put aside.

Then, in a medium-sized mixing bowl, use a whisk to sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Put aside.

Using an electric mixer, cream together the butter, 2 1/2 cups of the sugar, and the vanilla for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the zest, beating until well blended.

Mix 1/2 cup of orange juice with milk. Reduce the speed of the mixer and add alternately with the dry ingredients, starting and ending with the flour. Stop and periodically scrape the sides of the bowl.

Distribute the dough evenly in the pan. Place in the oven and bake for 75 to 80 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Check halfway through cooking and lay the foil on top to prevent over-browning, if necessary.

To make the orange syrup: Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, mix together 1/2 cup of the remaining sugar with 1/2 cup of orange juice. Simmer over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Put aside.

When the cake is finished baking, use a long skewer to punch holes in the cake. Place the icing on the cake, allowing it to flow into the hot cake. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.

To make the frosting: In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest until well combined. Place the cake on a plate or cake stand. Drizzle over cooled cake.

Store the cake in an airtight container in a cool or at room temperature. Happy Cooking Time.
