Beef Tips with Mushrooms

Beef Tips with Mushrooms

These beef tips are pieces of steak that are seared to perfection golden brown, then simmered in a savory mushroom sauce. An easy-to-make comfort food classic and the perfect dinner option the whole family will love.

  • 2 cups of hot water
  • 6-8 slices of bacon
  • 1 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 3-4 pounds of beef stew
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Better than Beef broth
  • 2 quarts small Portobella mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of cold water

First, brown the bacon pieces over medium to high heat in a cast iron skillet. Use a wooden spoon to move the bacon around so it doesn't burn.

Then, once the bacon is golden, place it on a small plate lined with paper towels. Add olive oil to the bacon fat in the pan. Heat over medium heat.

Place the beef stew on a half baking sheet lined with parchment paper and paper towels. Pat the beef stew dry with clean, dry paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.

Brown a few pieces of beef at a time. Let them brown well on all sides. Use tongs to turn the meat.

Once the beef tips are golden, place them in a 9 × 13-inch baking dish. Season with onion and garlic powder.

Sauté the mushroom slices over medium heat. Use a wooden spoon to move them every now and then, browning all sides. Once they're golden brown, but not completely cooked through, pour them over the golden beef stew. Also add the bacon to the baking dish.

Dissolve the Better Than Bouillon beef in very hot water. This will make your beef broth.

Deglaze the pan with red wine. Add the beef broth and use a wooden spoon to scoop out any brown bits from the bottom of the pot.

To thicken the sauce, add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to 1 cup of cold water. Stir with a spoon to dissolve. Add this mixture to the mixture of red wine and beef broth. Use a whisk to combine while it simmers. This will help you prevent lumps from forming.

Pour the sauce over the mushrooms and beef tips.

Cover pan with foil and place in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 2 hours.

Remove from the oven and serve with mashed potatoes, rice or noodles. Happy Cooking Time.
