Buttermilk Chess Pie

Buttermilk Chess Pie

This buttermilk pie has the wonderful tangy flavor of buttermilk and a bit of lemon juice and zest. It's a surprisingly easy filling to make, and you can use a frozen pie shell or homemade baking in the recipe.

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 9 "dough crust
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

First, beat butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until creamy.

Then, add the flour, salt and eggs. Beat until smooth. Add the buttermilk, lemon juice and vanilla and mix well. (The mixture may appear curdled.)

Pour the filling into a 9 "pie crust. I like to use a deep dish.

Place the pie plate on a cookie sheet and place it in an oven preheated to 350 °. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until top is lightly browned and set.

Place the pie on a cooling rack to cool. Serve at room temperature and refrigerate any leftovers. Happy Cooking Time.
