The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake






The easiest best chocolate cake with chocolate frosting in one pan! The fastest, easiest way to make homemade chocolate cake!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • ⅓ cup of cocoa powder
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon of instant coffee optional
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature

Texas Cake Frosting:

  • 6 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • ¾ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½ cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 6 tablespoons of milk
  • It is recommended to sift 4 cups of powdered sugar (after measuring to avoid lumps)

Instructions

First, preheat the oven to 350 ° F and grease and flour a 10x15 jelly pan (or spray with cooking spray).

Then, combine the butter, water and cocoa powder in a medium saucepan over low heat and cook until the butter is melted. Increase the heat to medium and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

While the butter / cocoa mixture cools, whisk together the flour, sugars, baking soda, salt and instant coffee in a large bowl.

In another bowl, whisk together sour cream, eggs and vanilla. Stir this into your dry ingredients until combined.

Once the chocolate mixture has cooled for at least 15 minutes, stir into your flour / sour cream mixture until the mixture is smooth and completely combined.

Spread batter into prepared roll pan and bake at 350 ° F for 18 to 22 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean or with a few damp crumbs.

Once the cake has finished baking (or several minutes before), begin making the frosting.

Combine milk and butter in a medium saucepan and cook over medium / low heat until the butter is melted. Once the butter has melted, remove from the heat and stir in the cocoa powder until well combined. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract and whisk until smooth.

Pour over cake while cake is still hot.
