Steak and Potato Pie

 Steak and Potato Pie

Steak and potato pie are always welcome at our table. The filling is formed with soft cuts of perfectly spiced beefsteak simmered during a rich sauce that makes its own sauce. Add mushrooms, shallots and golden sweet potato pieces and bake within the oven wrapped in double crust until golden brown.


2 1/2 pounds of top beefsteak

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon flavorer

1 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

2 tablespoons butter

2 cups low-sodium beef stock

2 tablespoons of condiment

3 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce

1 cup diced portabella mushrooms

1 medium sweet onion, diced

1 large stalk of fresh thyme

1 bay leaf

3 cups 1/2 inch diced golden potatoes

1 chilled pie shell (2 patties)

1 large egg, beat with 1 tablespoon cold water


1.Place the cubed steak, flour, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and cumin during a large bag . Close the bag and stir to coat.

2.In a large casserole or large saucepan, heat the oil and butter. Add the floured steak. Cook over medium-high heat until all sides are golden brown.

3.Add stock, spaghetti sauce , condiment , mushrooms, onions, thyme and bay leaves to the pan. bring back a boil then immediately reduce the warmth to medium-low, cover and simmer for 45 minutes.

4.Add the diced potatoes to the pan. Cover and simmer for half-hour or until the fork is tender. 5.Remove from heat and take away the bay leaves and thyme. Let it cool slightly or chill overnight. 

6.To Prepare: Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Bring pie shell to temperature consistent with package directions. Firmly attach the crust to rock bottom and sides of a ten inch forged iron skillet

Pour the filling into the crust. Cover with a second crust and bend the sides . Cut a slit at the highest .

7.Brush with beaten egg. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden Take a 15 minute break, chop and serve.
