 Golden Syrup Cake

It is best to organize the treacle Cake a touch before you propose to eat it. Make no mistake, it tastes good straight out of the oven, but it'll recover after a couple of days, letting the flavors deepen and therefore the treacle coating to soak in.


100 g of butter

50 g of castor sugar

50 g soft sugar

200 g of gold syrup

200 g flour that expands itself

1 free range chicken egg

150 ml of milk

2 tablespoons treacle


1.Preheat your oven to 160 ° C (140 ° C for fan ovens) and grease a 2 lb baking sheet with parchment paper.

2.Place butter, syrup and sugar during a medium skillet and warmth gently until all ingredients are melted, stirring occasionally. Once melted, put aside and refrigerate for a minimum of 10 minutes.

3.In a small bowl / pitcher, beat the milk and eggs together. Set aside.

4.In a large bowl, sieve the flour. Add the egg / milk mixture and therefore the cooled syrup mixture and beat until combined and you've got a lump-free dough.

5.Pour the mixture into the coated bread pan.

6.Bake within the preheated oven for about 1 hour until the tops are golden and therefore the skewers inserted are clean.

7.Let it cool for 10 minutes before piercing the whole cake with a skewer and spread 2 tablespoons of treacle on top.

8.Let it cool completely before serving. For best results, leave the cake within the oil-proof coating and add an additional sheet of parchment paper on top, before wrapping it in foil for a couple of days before serving. this may give the cake a deeper taste.
