Best Ever Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake
Seriously, this is the best chocolate chip coffee cake ever. Sour cream, nuts, brown sugar, real butter; it's perfect with a hot cup of coffee!
FOR THE CAKE:
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons of yeast
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs at room temperature
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 stick of butter at room temperature
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons of softened butter
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
FOR THE CAKE:
First, preheat the oven to 350. Lightly grease a 9 x 9 inch square baking dish and set aside.
Then, in a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
In large bowl or bowl of stand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. In a measuring cup, whisk together milk and sour cream. Add to butter mixture and mix until blended.
With the mixer on low heat, add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients (I do it by thirds). Add the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with additional filling and chocolate chips. Bake 35 to 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted near the center of the cake comes out clean.
Add butter, cinnamon, flour and brown sugar to a medium bowl. Use two forks to cut the butter into the flour mixture until everything is combined and the mixture is crumbly.
Alternatively, you can place all of the topping ingredients in your food processor and pulse until coarse crumbs form. Happy Cooking Time.
